Ingredients
- All-Purpose Flour: 2 cups (sifted)
- Unsalted Butter: 1 cup (cold, cubed)
- Granulated Sugar: ½ cup (divided)
- Ground Almonds: 1 cup
- Eggs: 2 (1 for dough, 1 for filling)
- Milk: 2 tbsp (whole milk preferred)
- Vanilla Extract: 1 tsp (optional)
Instructions
- Make the Dough: Mix flour and sugar, cut in cold butter until crumbly. Add 1 egg and milk; form into a dough, chill for 1 hour.
- Prepare the Filling: Combine ground almonds, sugar, 1 egg, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
- Assemble: Roll out dough, cut into rectangles, and spoon almond filling onto half. Cover with another rectangle and seal edges.
- Bake: Brush with egg wash, bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool before serving.
Notes
- Keep the butter cold for the flakiest texture.
- Let the dough rest at room temperature for 10 minutes after chilling to ease rolling.
